New and Noteworthy

Downtown Toledo is alive with an atmosphere of growth as businesses continue to open, our professional sports teams have award-winning atmospheres, new residents walk our sidewalks and our artistic communities bring cultural celebrations. This is where you can keep in-touch and up-to-date with it all. Check back in regularly for all the latest goings on in our city’s center.

Lunch at Levis is back again for the 16th year in a row! We had a blast with you all last year, so it was a no-brainer that we’d come back this year with even more planned. Join us on Thursdays at the newly renovated Levis Square Park for the largest work-day event in downtown. Live entertainment, food trucks, games and other activities are highlights of the biggest event during the work week.

The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department is operating a vaccine clinics in various locations in downtown this week known as Shot For Shots. These clinics are free and open to the public to anyone over the age of 18.

Have you noticed the new planters in downtown’s core? ConnecToledo, in cooperation with the Downtown Toledo Improvement District, has strategically placed 60 new planters in historic Central Business District. We’re looking for volunteers to help plant flowers and beautify our sidewalks.

Downtown is caffeinated! In the past month, two coffee shops have opened in the Central Business District and the Warehouse District. Both have a strong drink menu and food choices that local foodies will love.

Let’s play ball! The Mud Hens recently opened their season at Fifth Third Field and we had a blast despite the limited capacity. Luckily now, state restrictions will be lifted and Fifth Third Field can operate at full capacity beginning with their homestand on Tuesday, June 8.

Mud Hens Opening Day is the unofficial holiday of downtown Toledo! This year is a little different but we still anticipate a a fun party atmosphere. We've compiled a list of all the restaurants that will open Tuesday, May 4, and are within a three block radius of Fifth Third Field. We'll see you out there, Toledo!

Downtown property and business owners, you are invited to the Downtown Toledo Improvement District (DTID) open house known as Coffee Connections. These conversations will be held the last Wednesday of the quarter at Rustbelt Coffee between 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. You will have an opportunity to meet with DTID board members, staff from ConnecToledo and fellow neighbors to discuss activities impacting our workers, residents, visitors and investors.

Downtown Toledo will host Solheim Cup Opening Ceremonies featuring Gwen Stefani on September 3, 2021. Stefani is a three-time Grammy award winner and has also received an American Music Award, Brit Award, World Music Award, two Billboard Music Awards and four MTV Video Music Awards. VH1 has ranked her 13th on their “100 Greatest Women in Music” list. You can watch her as a judge on NBC’s The Voice.

As we continue towards inoculating our community and practicing safe habits, events are starting to return. We want our events to be exciting, so we have two huge ones on track! Toledo Jeep Fest will once again take over our downtown streets from August 6-8 for a weekend-long celebration of Toledo’s favorite automobile, the Jeep. Just a few weeks later, begins the LPGA’s Solheim Cup. The Solheim Cup is a biennial golf tournament contested by teams representing Europe and the United States. While the tournament will be held at Inverness Club, all off-course festivities will be held in downtown. Opening Ceremonies are on Friday, September 3 with the tournament ending Monday, September 6.

With warmer weather approaching, we know you’ll be itching to get outside. What better way to do that than with a copy of the Arts Commission new Art in Public Places Field Guide. This guide features artworks from the City of Toledo’s One Percent for Art collection, which is administered by The Arts Commission through its Art in Public Places committee. There are also several works from other collections in Northwest Ohio.
